About Caltrol
Caltrol is a weight management app - control your weight without restrictive diets. Track food intake, monitor calories, get personalized exercise recommendations, and improve your overall well-being. Start today and take control of your health!

Problems
Asians tend to accumulate more belly fat and visceral fat compared to Westerners, which is a risk factor for fat-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.
Many Asians want to lose weight but do not want to adhere to strict diet regimes because they can be stressful and uncomfortable.
Goals
Develop a weight loss application for Asians that does not require strict dieting, with a flexible weight loss plan based on the user's culinary preferences.
Provide users with information on nutrition and healthy lifestyles so they can safely and effectively lose weight.
Allow users to track their weight loss progress and motivate them to achieve their goals through features such as food diary writing, physical activity tracking, and interacting with other users to encourage each other.

Base on Design Thinking
Design Process
Based on the product's context. I conducted research on the product's issues starting from the Test phase. Based on the data collected from the Test phase, I proceeded to build version 2.0 of DayCon.

What are the factors responsible for the problems?
Empathy
Users Interview
During the discovery phase, the primary objective of interviews is to gather crucial information about users, such as their backgrounds, beliefs, motivations, desires, or needs. Because of this, I have decided to create a structured interview based on the following guidelines:

I selected 15 users who share common characteristics such as being office workers, aged from around 20 to 30, and having an interest in health issues. Then, I conducted structured interviews with each user based on a set of questions.
Empathy
I proceeded to create an Empathy Map. To avoid bias in this step, I enlisted the help of Mr. Hoang Kha, Product Designer at SHub Technology Joint Stock Company, and Mr. Nhan Hua, UX Leader at The ONE5 Technology Company Limited, to read the interview data and assist me in the process. As a result, I have the following Empathy Map:

What are the factors responsible for the problems?
Define
User Persona
Based on the data from structured interviews and user pain point, I came up with 2 User Personas, including a primary user and a secondary user as follows:
Problem statement: Khoa is an overweight person who wants to lose weight but doesn't want to go on a diet because he doesn't have time to prepare healthy food.

Problem statement: Nhung is a person who lives a healthy lifestyle and needs ways to diversify her healthy diet, because eating clean is quite bland and boring for her.

Customer Journey Map
I created a user journey map of Khoa's experience to help identify possible pain points and improvement opportunities.
Goal: Help users understand and use the calorie deficit-based weight loss app effectively to achieve desired weight loss results and provide opportunities to improve user experience.

Competitor Analysis
Goal: Compare the current features on competitive apps to identify gaps in the market.

MyFitnessPal and Calories have similar features and are both available for free. Lose weight in 30 days has a unique selling point of providing a 30-day plan, but lacks some of the tracking features of the other apps and requires payment for full access.
How Might We?
How might we design an app that calculates BMI and TDEE at each stage of a person's weight loss journey?
How might we develop a feature that allows users to record their daily calorie intake and actual calorie needs?
How might we develop a feature that reminds users to stay hydrated?
How might we develop a community feature that connects individuals with similar weight loss goals?
How might we develop a feature that provides guidance on proper exercise techniques?
How might we develop a feature that provides specific workout instructions for each muscle group?
How might we develop a feature that allows users to choose their preferred method of weight gain/loss?
How might we develop a feature that scans the calorie content of the user's food?
How might we develop a feature that sets up menus based on the user's preferences?
How might we develop a feature that suggests meals based on the user's desired calorie intake for each meal?
User Flow
Simplified User Journey, here is Key User Flows of DayCon 2.0
Wireflow
Next, I created Wireflows for the Caltrol application to better understand its structure and workflow, making it easier to identify user experience issues before deploying the product. Additionally, wireflows support me and developers to interact and discuss how the application works. This helps create a higher quality end product and reduces development time and costs by addressing issues before deployment.

Test & Future
Usability Study
I conducted a Usability Test on a High-fidelity prototype. The study was conducted with the following information:
Research Question
1. How long does it take for users to add a dish to their daily menu?
2. During the use of the main-flow, did users encounter any issues?
3. Does the app meet the needs of users?
Participants
5 participants
Age: 20-30
Person who needs to lose/gain weight and has a busy office lifestyle.
Methodology
Time: 15 minutes
Location: Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam
Method:Unscripted usability test
User Journey Map
Based on the Usability Testing, I continued to create a User Journey Map. This helped me understand what the application has not been able to achieve, from which I can make a plan to enhance the user experience for the next version.

The user journey map focuses on providing users with a clear understanding of their daily calorie budget, as well as tools to help them track their progress towards their goals. By emphasizing customization, convenience, and personalization, the app aims to make the process of calorie tracking as easy and enjoyable as possible for users.
These were the main findings uncovered by the usability study:
Findings
1
Too many steps to complete Onboarding.
2
The information about Macros is not clear, users do not understand whether they are following Macros correctly or not.
Take Away
Impact
This is an effective weight loss application with the feature of monitoring caloric intake and output, providing users with detailed nutritional information and suggesting alternative eating options when they exceed their calorie budget. The application also provides progress evaluation and menu guidance, making it easy for users to track and maintain a healthy eating regimen. This product has a positive impact on users' health and improves their quality of life.
What I learned
I learned that even a small design change can have a huge impact on the user experience. The most important takeaway for me is to always focus on the real needs of the user when coming up with design ideas and solutions.
